Howdy,

I’m Austin Van Meter. I am a sophomore at Kansas State University pursuing a major in News & Sports Media with a concentration in photojournalism and a minor in Spanish.

I work for K-State Athletics as a student photographer alongside eight other talented photographers. I assist in the visual coverage of our 14 varsity programs. I also serve as a photographer for the Kansas City Monarchs of the American Association of Professional Baseball.

As a native of Manhattan, Kansas, purple is in my blood. Growing up, I’ve created fond memories with friends and family at football, basketball, and baseball games. Midwest values, such as hard work and authenticity have been embedded into me since childhood, and these values are embodied in my work. It is my responsibility to capture the peak, authentic, and real moments that tell the unique story of each athlete I work with; I take great care and pride in this responsibility.

As a student photographer for K-State Athletics, I help with gameday coverage for all of our athletics programs, cover community and team events, and conduct studio shoots to collect media assets and for recruiting purposes. I’ve also been fortunate to travel with K-State Baseball during the 2024 postseason, traveling to Arilington, Texas for the Big 12 Baseball Tournament; Fayetteville, Arkansas for the 2024 NCAA Baseball Regional Tournament; and Charlottesville, Virginia, for the Super Regional round, which was only K-State’s second all-time appearance in the Super Regionals. I’ve had my work featured in a variety of both local and national publications.

In April of 2024, I was selected to attend the 2024 NCAA Women’s Final Four Photography Workshop in Cleveland, Ohio. It was a unique experience to meet, connect, and network with other collegiate photographers and professionals from the NCAA and Getty Images.

My time at Kansas State has shaped me into who I am today. I’ve had peaks and I’ve had vallies. All the experiences, both good and bad, have helped contribute to my professional, personal, and spiritual growth. I’m thankful for the support I have at K-State, including my coworkers, on-campus ministry group Christian Challenge, and my family.

Thank you for taking the time to view my portfolio. God bless, and go ‘Cats!

Shown below are organizations I’ve worked with or where my work has been published.
