Howdy! My name is Austin Van Meter
I am a sophomore at Kansas State University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in News & Sports Media with an emphasis in photojournalism alongside a minor in Spanish.
I work for K-State Athletics as one of eight student photographers on staff. My responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Gameday coverage of all 16 athletics programs at Kansas State.
- Covering promotional, community, and team events.
- Delivering in-game content in real-time to the social media team for publication across X, Instagram, and Facebook.
- Editing images in real-time to help expedite the in-game workflow for our social team to improve the timeliness of our posts.
- Coordinating, conducting, and executing studio/creative shoots for athletes.
- Coordinating with team recruiting coordinators to execute photoshoots for prospective student-athletes.
- Maintaining historical archives on PhotoShelter by culling, tagging, and applying metadata to images via Photo Mechanic to improve the searchability of assets and to keep a historical record of each athletic year at Kansas State.
I also have the privilege of serving as the primary photographer for K-State Baseball. In 2024, I shot all but eight homes, conducted every recruit photoshoot, and traveled with the team during the postseason to Arlington, Texas; Fayetteville, Arkansas; and Charlottesville, Virginia.
In April of 2024, I was selected to attend the 2024 NCAA Women’s Final Four photography workshop hosted by NCAA Photos and Clarkson Creative in Cleveland, Ohio. There, I networked with various collegiate and professional photographers from the NCAA, Getty, and AP. My work from the open practice was featured alongside my peers on NCAA Photo’s social channels.
During my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to shadow the creative staff at Kansas State throughout the 2022-2023 athletics season. I shot a variety of events from football, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, tennis, and baseball. That experience helped me transition seamlessly into my current role at K-State.
In my free time, I work as a freelance portrait and events photographer, covering weddings, Greek life semi-formals, senior portraits, engagement sessions, and graduations, and have also worked as a freelance creative for social media personalities such as fitness influencer Nathan Freihofer.
Post-graduation, I hope to work in professional baseball as a staff photographer.
Thank you for viewing my portfolio. Have a quality day, God bless, and go ‘Cats!
